A delightful, Grade II listed, detached property situated in the centre of a sought-after village location. Stilton is a village in Cambridgeshire, approximately six miles from the city of Peterborough, and with easy access to the A1M. It is ideally located and has excellent facilities, including a primary school, shops, post office, pubs, hotel and sports centre.
This charming property boasts a wealth of character and many fine features, including exposed timbers and brickwork, an attractive central brick fireplace and vaulted bedroom ceilings. However, it also benefits from modern appliances such as gas central heating, secondary glazing and a beautiful refitted Kitchen, creating a wonderful feel to this lovely home.
An original, solid wooden door allows access into the property, and the welcoming living room with a window to the front of the property. With exposed beams and decorative timber-framed walls, this appealing room establishes the character seen throughout the property. Leading from the living room is the dining room, WC and the concealed staircase leading to the first floor. Carpeted in a neutral colour, the focal point of the room is the large exposed brick fireplace with wood burner and log storage set into the wall. The fireplace chimney is central to the property and nestles between the living room and sitting room.
From the living room is a small extension housing a storage cupboard and downstairs cloakroom, cleverly designed to fit a modern white handbasin and WC.
Open to the living room, divided by the brick fireplace, is a lovely sitting room with a decorative electric fire and window to the front mirroring the window in the living room. Continuing with the period features of low beamed ceilings and timber-framed walls, the room offers a warm and cosy feel, with TV points and doors leading to the bathroom and kitchen.
Attractive double doors lead into the ground-floor bathroom which has a modern suite, beautifully complementing the age of the property. The bathroom is of ample size comprising a large white bath with shower, vanity unit with basin and WC. An obscure window to the rear allows light into this pleasant room.
Recently refitted, this bright room is a superb addition to the property. The high sloping ceilings with exposed beams and Velux window fulfils a feeling of space, along with the sympathetic neutral-toned fitted units and wood-effect worktops. A stainless-steel sink and Neff cooking appliances add to the contemporary feel, with an integrated dishwasher, space for a fridge/freezer and washing machine.
With the entrance from the kitchen, the beams and high sloping ceiling of the dining room has exposed timber walls. This agreeable room has space for a dining table and chairs and access to the rear garden through a delightful half-glazed stable door.
Behind a wooden door in the living room are the concealed, carpeted stairs to the first floor and landing, which is built into the roof space of the property. The upstairs floor exhibits wonderful ceiling heights and features, and the landing has both exposed brickwork and timber walls.
A stunning example of period framed walls, this double bedroom has an impressive ceiling height of 3.5m. Natural light comes from a Velux window, and the room is filled with original beams. With a fireplace of decorative brick work, the room would fittingly accommodate numerous pieces of bedroom furniture.
The charming features continue in the second bedroom. It is twinned with the same wonderful ceiling height, Velux window, original exposed timber-framed walls and ceiling, as bedroom one. Another decorative exposed brick fireplace is present, along with a useful, fitted cupboard for storage
The west-facing rear garden is an attractive secluded, sunny space, enclosed on two sides by a timber fence. With a lovely brick wall on one side, raised bedding borders, a lawned area, filled with mature plants, shrubs and a picturesque pond, the garden has a country cottage ambience. A patio accompanies the house; to the sides of the garden is a shed which conceals a handy hatch housing the refuse bins. This, in turn, is accessed from the front of the property, by a useful side-gated passageway.
What the current owners love about their home....
This cottage is bursting with warmth and character. Bored of 'dull boxes' we were looking for somewhere with personality and Dove Cottage has it in spades. The downstairs layout is open and inviting and it's great that you can walk around so freely through the rooms. The newer extension of the kitchen and dining area are full of light and give a more modern, fresh feel which perfectly balance the old charm of the original building whilst the bedrooms bring such beauty with their original beams and height. It was impossible for us not to fall in love with it and will be difficult for us to leave.
