Oundle Area Guide

What’s Oundle Like?

Within easy reach of Peterborough, Northampton, Cambridge and even London, it has a pleasantly ‘villagey’ feel that attracts tenants from all walks of life. If you’re thinking of moving to Oundle, here’s some useful information about the area and the properties you’ll find there. The historic market town has a charming centre, with historic limestone buildings and plenty of things to see and do. It’s a haven for those who love independent shops, with a variety of retailers in residence in the high street; not to mention several great restaurants, pubs and bars. Families are also drawn by the area’s excellent educational establishments, such as Oundle School, which is widely regarded as being one of the best independent schools in the area, and which was awarded an Outstanding in its latest Ofsted report.

Oundle also has an enviable location, close to the Nene and the surrounding countryside. The footpath along the river to the old mill at Barnwell is especially popular, as is Barnwell Country Park, with its scenic lakes. There’s also the regenerated Oundle Wharf, which is a magnet for nature-lovers after their walk, with the Tap & Kitchen not only offering good food, but a great view of the river.

Transport

Oundle doesn’t have its own train station, but this isn’t too problematic for locals. Peterborough is only a 14-mile drive away, and its train station links commuters with London in just 45 minutes. Likewise, Cambridge and Northampton are under an hours’ drive away. The town is only eight miles from the A1 and five miles off the A14, making it easy to travel around the surrounding area.

There’s also a regular bus service, linking Oundle with Peterborough, Thrapston, Stamford, Burton Latimer and more.

Properties in Oundle

The historic properties near the centre of town are highly sought-after, thanks to their attractive period features and limestone construction. Townhouses often range in size, from more sizeable homes to terraced properties, but they don’t tend to come to the rental market very often, so when they do, it’s important to act fast.

There are plenty of more modern propertiesin the area too, often offering more generous living space, plus garages, driveways and gardens. The new Charles Church development is proving popular with buyers and tenants alike, thanks to its range of attractive properties within easy reach of the town centre.

Potential to Let?

There’s plenty of letting potential in Oundle, and demand for rented accommodation is rising. The most prevalent type of tenant are families, who are drawn to the area because of its excellent schools, lively community ambiance and good local amenities. If you’re considering purchasing a property to let out, it’s a good idea to buy with this in mind.

Getting to Grips
